INTERDIGITAL CYSTS

Interdigital cysts

Interdigital cysts in the English bulldog seem to be caused by a mechanical factor due to their morphology rather than to an infection, as many think. Their posture, combined with the mechanics of their movement (all the weight of the body is unloaded on the front) determines the formation of these cysts. For this reason they are almost always present on the front legs and for this reason they tend to relapse. Local or systemic antibacterials are only suitable to prevent them from becoming infected, as a secondary effect. Local administration of antibiotic and cortisone may be attempted (ask your veterinarian to recommend a product on the market with these characteristics). Otherwise, if the cysts are not causing your bulldog any particular problems, it is not necessary to treat them, they heal on their own. Alternatively, the affected paw can be immersed in a solution of water and salt, a natural method and as such very mild, but without any side effects.
